2nd “Men of God” Bible Fellowship Begins November 28 Study Focus: The Gospel of Luke
You are invited. Every man of New Hope is invited to join in a weekly fellowship with other men based on the Word of God. One group has been meeting every Thursday from 6:00-7:00am & is currently studying the minor prophets of the OT (Micah is up for next week Nov 29). Contact Pastor Chuck or Bob for more info about the am study. We have had numerous men interested in Bible study but who are unable to come on Thursdays at 6:00am. For this reason we are starting a 2nd like-minded group that will meet on Wednesday evenings from 8:30-9:30pm. Our goal is to read & be shaped by the written Word of God, chapter by chapter, book by book.
Why the gospel of Luke? The main reason is that Luke is part of God’s Word & so this book is literally “breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17). In short we need the message of Luke in order to be “men of God”! This particular study will overlap in a great way with Pastor Jeff’s current preaching series (it was a little too late for us to start the same material as the am group).
How do I prepare? Our only expectation is for men to read one chapter a day from the Bible (about 5 min a day) & look for ways to turn that reading into prayer, worship & practical action. Our assignment for next Wed Nov 28 is to read & reflect on Luke 1 with a focus on Lk 1:1-45 (we’ll normally do about ˝ of a chapter a week). Ideally we hope each man will read through Luke one chapter a day consecutively & then reread the focus material several times in the week.
What do we do from 8:30-9:30pm? We plan to spend our time in the following way: · 8:30-8:45pm – Brief teaching time as a large group · 8:45-9:15pm - Small group discussion in groups of 3-4 men. Our discussion is centered every week on these 4 questions: a. Q #1: What is one central teaching of this passage that feeds your soul? (What is one central teaching of this passage? Seek to connect your response to the text itself & its context) b. Q #2: What is one way that this passage helps you see & savor God? (What is one central truth @ God in this text? Again, connect your answer to the text & its context) c. Q #3: What is one way that this passage steps on your “toes”? (What is one central application, a reproof or correction, of this text, especially for men? Again connect your application to our text & context) d. Q #4: Is there “one more thing” you want to say or ask about this passage? · 9:15-9:30pm – Prayer huddles of 2-3 men in which we share 1 personal prayer need & seek to pray that evenings text into one another’s lives. Note: we plan to start promptly at 8:30pm & end promptly at 9:30pm.
Questions? Please contact Pastor Jeff if you are interested in the PM study or have any questions. Feel free to just “show up” & to bring a friend.
