Christian Education for Children
(SS meets in the day care Bldg)
Preschool
and TK - He Established a Testimony
Teacher: June Bassey
God has testified of His glorious deeds and mighty power. This
curriculum explores God’s greatness by noting key themes found
chronologically throughout the Old Testament Bible stories are not written
out; teachers prepare the lesson through the study of scripture using a list
of key themes, opening illustrations, and application questions to acquaint
children with a great God whose character never changes.
K and 1st - The ABC’s of God
Teacher: Joe Bilby
Right thinking about God is essential for the life of faith. Using
the alphabet as a framework for teaching the attributes of God, this study
explores the delight that God has in Himself as the source, means, and
purpose of all things. Each lesson asks and answers three key questions,
“Who is God?” “What is He like?” and “How should I act toward Him?” as it
presents a theology of God for children.
2nd and 3rd – How Majestic
is Your Name
Teacher: Gary Duesenberg
The names of God are wonderful revelations of His majestic
character. This study presents the Hebrew names of God in the Old Testament
and the names of Christ and the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. Each
lesson encourages children to see and rejoice in the goodness & greatness of
God as they explore the meaning of His glorious names.
4th and 5th - Fight the
Good Fight
Teacher: Sylvia Holtrop
Christians must be fighters: that is, fighters in the battle for
faith! This study identifies various battlegrounds of temptation, and equips
children with strategies to fight against sin. They are encouraged to fuel
their faith in God by remembering that strength, help, and victory are
assured in Christ. Children are challenged to memorize 50 Fighter Verses to
help them in the battle.
Sunday Evening Kid’s Club - In the
Beginning…..Jesus
The Bible is one complete true story that
progressively reveals God’s redemptive plan, which comes to complete
fulfillment in the Person and work of Jesus Christ In the Beginning...Jesus
begins with a historical mystery - Jesus’ death on the cross and asks the
questions: “What really happened here?” “Why did Jesus die?” and “Who did
it?” To find the answers to these questions, the study goes to the beginning
of the Bible narrative in Genesis and moves chronologically through the OT
text as students search for clues that foreshadow the coming of Jesus and
His redemptive work on the cross. Special emphasis is given to showing that
the Bible is God’s story from beginning to end and that Jesus is the key to
understanding the story.
Discipleship Training
Located in the East CE Wing (formerly known as the Sr. Center)
Learning to Live Like Jesus
Co-teac hers: Ryan
Achterhoff & Jeff Whitt
This is a Bible study & discussion class for college students & adults that.
will focus on the life & teachings of Jesus. We want to learn how Jesus
lived & be encouraged to follow His example. Our plan is to study a key
passage of Scripture from the gospels & see how that text “trains” &
“equips” us to live as apprentices of Jesus. The class could have many
different titles (Learning to live/love/minister/lead ... like Jesus). This
will be a class on both the doctrine of Jesus & the practice of the
Jesus-centered life.
FULLY DEVOTED: Living - Each Day in Jesus’ Name
by John Ortberg
Teacher: Pearl Gibbons
For Ladies Only: FULLY DEVOTED gets at the heart of what it means to be a
fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. You’ll gain fresh new perspectives
on foundational values, practices of Christian growth, explore the wonderful
depths of grace and how to train to become like Christ. (This is from the
same “Pursuing Spiritual Transformation” series as was used last year.)
Foundations
Teacher: Jim Clemens
This is an ongoing class which will study the core doctrines of the
Christian faith. Throughout the Pastoral Epistles the apostle Paul
encourages us to teach and learn “sound doctrine”. We hope to do that in a
way which is accessible to anyone who is interested in a deeper
understanding of their faith. We also intend to do practical theology by
applying solid doctrine to our everyday lives. This fall we will explore
what the Bible teaches about Creation and how that should shape a Christian
world view (including a study of male/female roles). Later, we will study
how sin and the fall distorted God’s creation and alienated us from Him. In
the new year, Lord willing, we will begin a study of how God does the work
of redemption. If you can’t attend regularly, feel free to come when you
can. College students are welcome.
