Digging Deeper into Jesus’ Teaching on the Kingdom of God by Pastor Jeff
Here are a few ways to dig deeper into today’s sermon passage.
1. The Kingdom of God/heaven is especially emphasized in the 4 gospels, being used @ 115 x. Jesus’ use of the “Kingdom” is central: in Mt, Mk, & Lk ( being used 112x in those 3 alone); in the “Sermon on the Mount” / Mt 5:3, 5:10, 5:19-20, 6:10, 33, & 7:21; in how both John the Baptist & Jesus define the gospel / Mt 3:2 & 4:17, 10:7, 11:11-12, 19:14 & 24:14, in how Mt repeatedly defines Jesus’ teaching/ Mt 4:23, 9:35 & 24:14; in the core of many of Jesus’ parables/ Mt 13:11, 19, 24, 31, 33, 38, 41, 43, 45, 47 & 52; in how Jesus sees history heading Mt 20:1ff, 20:21 & 31, 22:2ff, 24:14, 25:34 & is powerful in John, though used only 3x/ Jn 3:3 & 5, & 18:36.
2. The Kingdom of God/heaven is also emphasized in Acts-Rev being used 29x. Note especially: Acts 1:3, 1:6, 8:12, 14:22, 19:8, 20:25, 28:23, & 28:31; 1 Cor. 15:24, Col. 1:13 & Col. 4:11; 2 Tim. 4:1 & 4:18 & Hebrews 12:28
