Digging Deeper Into the Book of Nehemiah

There are so many ways we can dig into the book of Nehemiah that I can’t mention them all. Here are a few:

> Neh 8:10 & 12 tells the people who gathered to worship “to send portions” to others. This is referring to their sharing their own food & drink with the poor & with those who had no such provisions. The OT & NT both make it very clear that such concern for others & especially for the poor are very important. 2 Sam 6:19, Esth 9:22, Ex 23:11, Lev 19:10, 23:22, Dt 14:28-29, 15:1-11, 24:10-22, 26:12-13, Job 29:12, 16, 31:16-19, Ps 112:9, Prov 1:6-8 & 2:2, Jam 1:25-27, Gal 6:10 & 1 Cor 11:20-22.

> Joy/rejoicing/be glad is often in Neh (see Neh 8:10, 12, 17; 12:27 & 43). See also Ps 43:4,Zeph3:14-17,1s65:18-19,Ps4:7, 16:11, 21:6,119:111, 51:12, 66:1-4, 92:1-4, Is 35:2 & 10, 55:12, In 15:11, 16:22, 17:13, Gal 5:22, 1 Th 1:6, Jam 1:2, 1 Pet 1:8, 1 in 1:4. Note especially the repetition of joy/rejoice in Dt 12:1-19

> The temple& temple worship is important in Neh (1:2, 7,2:8,3:26,31, 3:3, 8-11; 5:2-5, 6:3ff, 6:10-11, 16-18, 7:46, 60, 73, 10:28, 11:3, 11:21, 13:1-14).
